GRRRR

Hello tetchy, I'm pleased to meet you.......

Actually.......... I'M NOT

I'M NOT PLEASED AT ALL

Please allow me to explain

Now I'm sure you are a wonderful person tetchy, unusual name granted, but then a lot of people do have, like Bob, Carol, Tom, Lucy I could go on, I often do, but now I wont.

The reason I am not so pleased to meet you is, you will never believe it, but I'm tetchy too, I don't mean that's my name, “that's not my name, they call me quiet girl, but I'm a riot yeah, maybe joleisa, always the same, that's not my na..........” Its ok, I have stopped now (slipped into Ting Ting's mode sorry) ..... (catchy though).....(if not old)......(not that I can talk)....(well I can and too much, but that's not what I meant)....

See, I have done it again, sidetracked myself, where was I, not my name, that's it, I don't mean my name is tetchy I mean I am tetchy.

2 reasons (well probably millions miserable old git that I am) but at the moment I'm focussing on just the 2, the first being tooth related, the other being noise related.

The tooth aspect relates to a horrendous abscess I have under a crown, not pleasant and bloomin painful, the noise, well, Halloween being what it is people have fun and celebrate (America has much to answer for). Now normally I like fun and celebration as much as anyone but NOT when I have a horrendous abscess (did I mention it hurts lol) and have to be up for work in the morning.

Rant over.

Thursday 29 October 2009

What time is it?

This will be another short post, not a long post, not a detailed post, a succinct and to the point post, partly as I’m tired, partly as I have an abscess in my jaw and most importantly because the content of the post does not require many words to cover it.

I know the tiredness and abscess have nothing to do with the length of a post, I was just trying to embellish things a bit, as I said, its going to be a short post anyway so I thought a little bit of padding wouldn’t hurt.

In fact padding by its very nature is there to provide a cushioning or degree of protection so hurting is the last thing padding should do, isnt it?

Right, the point of the post, is the sharp bit on the top I often (always) like to put a pic up with my posts,
sometimes relevant, usually not (maybe in an abstract way) and when there is a picture I may (but not always) make comment about or towards it, in itself fine and not a problem.

The potential difficulty lies in the type of comment/picture mix and what others may deduce from or read into it.

For example a few posts ago I made comment about possibly posting at ten past ten (or not posting then)…(bear with me its going somewhere) and this comment accompanied a picture of a clock displaying said time, it was not meant as a “please return at ten past ten to see the latest post” type comment, it was purely said in jest and to link in to the time on the clock in the pic.

I may well post (one day) at ten past ten, after all I have two chances a day of doing so and one day, just one day, it may be that time when I post (I’m going to be conscious of it now lol) but for anyone that read said post and returned at ten past ten hoping to see another, I apologise for any confusion or disappointment (unlikely lol) that resulted from me misleading you about the time of the next post.

I am tempted to mark this post as a “one to be revisited” one and place it in the corresponding section over there on the left. I think there is a lot more mileage in the posting at certain times/set times aspect, however, the trouble with marking it as such is that I will have to include said clock pic that declares it is ten past ten (to denote the post will be revisited in the future) and that could bring me full circle and leave me having to apologise again.

I tell you what I will do, I will revisit this (and include the clock pic, as demz da roolz) but I will warn the reader that it doesn’t necessarily mean I will be posting again at ten past ten, the next post might not be for months (is that a hooray I hear in the distance) or it may be within hours (that was a definitely a groan) but it WONT be at ten past ten, not the next one anyway, after that who knows, I don’t, that’s why I’m going now, more painkillers needed I think :-)

Some section of this post will be revisited at some time (maybe 10 past 10) but probably not, but at some time in the future (possibly) who knows........

Wednesday 28 October 2009

My first revisited topic :-)

This is a topic that came up in an  earlier post LINK  and is subsequently being "revisited"

Right, thats the formalities out the way, on with the post..........

I did wonder when  if I would ever get round to revisiting some of the things in my revisit list........

Blimey, that made me jump, it must be now then, now must be the time for revisiting,  I don't know, creeping up on me like that, bad post naughty post in your bed........... or not, posts don't have beds do they, actually they do, a fence post (for example) would/could be “bedded” into a semi wet concrete mix in order to keep it fixed in place and provide a stable base to secure a fence to..... where was I, that's it, revisiting, it was going to be yesterday (when I planned to do my first revisit post) but I got sidetracked, that does seem to happen, a lot actually, probably far too much but hey ho such is life.

When I said hey ho I wasnt saying hello to someone that earns their money by, I better stop now hadn't I......

Inappropriate titles

Initially, when I first mentioned them I was referring to to strange descriptions for situations, e.g. "driving rain" (its not good for driving in, as mentioned in my initial post) there are countless similar descriptions too but I wont cover them now, nor will I revisit them, thats the rule of a revisited topic, you dont revisit it again (although in saying that the rules are what I say they are, its MY blog lol) so that rule may change.

Then you get things like toothpaste (do you clean just the one tooth), hot water heaters (why would you heat hot water) again there are many many more but usual not revisiting a revisit rules apply.

Since my initial post I have given more thought to inappropriate titles and I remembered a list of websites I stumbled across many moons back (and now need to find lol) in which the URL (get me being all technical lol) doesn't necessarily portray the business/organisation in the light which they were no doubt intended, by the way, its been a long time since I checked any of the links (many I have never checked) and I have no intention of becoming all obsessive about it now and clicking on every single link to see if they work, I will leave that to you the reader :-)

Another cryptic post?

Not really no, a short one though, been tinkering (again) and decided it was time to post about one of the already mentioned things contained in the box on the left (somewhere over there) well its not a box but its a collection of things already touched upon.

Trouble is I got distracted, while looking for an image to accompany said post, so Im posting about something else instead, but briefly.

The two images above may appear at different times throughout the blog (its Ok I'm not doing a “Simon says” thing and sorry there are no prizes for spotting them)

The first will appear at the bottom of a post to be revisited (that's why I distracted myself I had to go over all my old ones and add it lol)

The second will appear at the start of new post that's revisiting an old post, got it, great, as you were :-)

EEEUUURRROOOPPPPPPPPP

Firstly I suppose I should provide the answer to my cryptic post yesterday, actually its not an answer as I didn't pose a question, let me rephrase.....

Firstly I suppose I should supply an explanation to the (rather unsubtle) meaning behind yesterdays post...

I say post, it was more of a few words and 2 pictures, the first picturing being a GREEN beetle (I do love a beetle) and the second being a calendar, containing DAY's within it, well its what calendars do is it, its their porpoise in life.....

Last night I happened to be in the O2 Arena watching some musical thing, some group or other, I didn't want to go I hasten to add but my daughter couldn't very well go on her own so I had to go, didn't enjoy it, hated every minute (obviously) but what could I do, just had to go along and try to make the best of it...........

OK I'm fibbing (just a tad) it was excellent, been a fan for a long long while (isn't it great when your children like the music you do lol) to try to narrow down a particularly favourite track would be far too tricky so I have chose 3 (for now)...(I'm sure this will go on my “things to revisit” list)

Each of the links are to songs they played last night (not literally, although there is footage of the concert on youtube already, some of which isn't too bad) the first link the official video, the second a live version, to narrow it down to 3 from the night was very very hard (hence it going on the revisit list) as it was an excellent concert, they certainly know how to put on a show.....

1) studio
1) live
2) studio
2) live
3) studio
3) live

I know, I clearly have far too much time on my hands.................
I guess by now (if not bored and fallen asleep) you (the reader) must be wondering what on earth the pic up there ^^^^^^^^ has to do with this post, please allow me to explain....

While, I (and daughter) were in London enjoying (not that I did you understand) Green Day, Son had attended a party, first (ish) proper one (bless), anyway, following returning from said party (and after possibly consuming something of an alcoholic nature) he felt a little unwell, hence the pic, to mark the event.....

It was a scene from the film Arthur, in which when himself feeling a tad unwell (Arthur)...(although it was actually Dustin Hoffman), he declared he was going to shout Europe at the sink and promptly did ….....

Some section of this post will be revisited at some time (maybe 10 past 10) but probably not, but at some time in the future (possibly) who knows........

Tuesday 20 October 2009

Have your cake and eat it........

Before I start I should point out that this post and its accompanying pic are not related to the previous birthday celebration one, although a cake would have been good for the blog's 21st post anniversary it did not receive one. Also before I start (I know, I have already started) but before I do properly I feel I should post a disclaimer (anyone got a stamp) to say that I personally have no issues with what anyone does to themselves or with their life, as long as they aren't hurting others and are happy then its all good so I don't want anyone (if anyone does lol) reading this thinking I have prejudicial views about anyone.

I was driving along today, quiet happily listening to the radio (talk not music) when a subject that has been in the news came on and was discussed (link here)

Now, as much as I do feel for the gentleman and his family as it must be an incredibly difficult thing to deal with and work through, I do find myself asking a few questions.

The first stems from comments made by a person that was being interviewed by the radio station who was a former carer for said gentleman.

She explained that the man had been moved into a council run home in order to curb his weight (a few years ago when only 50 stone (ish). The point of this was to monitor and control his weight/calorie intake in order for him to undergo an operation when he had dropped down to a more acceptable (and safer) weight for the operation to be performed.

The (former) carer said that all efforts to curb his intake were hampered by not only his family who regularly bought excess food to him when visiting but also local takeaway establishments who would deliver fast food on a daily basis and pass it through his window.

He himself hampered any efforts made to assist him by adopting the attitude that its my body and I will eat what I want when I want and you cant stop me.

This in itself is true, BUT, not only is his weight causing a tremendous drain on the health/social services of his locality and subsequently ensuring that other people will go without treatment that they require due to a drain on budgets but more importantly its threatening his own life!

Now, I'm not having a dig and suggesting he has bought it on himself because he loves cake and has an over active pie arm (not thyroid) nor am I saying he is fat (I have no issues with larger people) but what I am saying is that if (for example) the gentleman was suffering form Anorexia and his condition was so bad that his life was in imminent danger then a Mental Health Act Assessment would be carried out and he would could be placed under a section of the Mental Health Act and subsequently “treated” (against his will if necessary) in order to save his life.

According to reports he does not suffer from gluttony, greed (its ok I'm not doing the seven deadly sins lol) or any other form of “self induced” weight gain but has a “recognised” illness, its a shame its not recognised to the extent that steps could be taken to save his life!

Ok, rant over, but for the record, I (like him)...(possibly) love cake too :-)

21 TODAY, 21 TODAY

I'm not going to break into a jewellers and steal any gold its ok, oops, I mean I'm not going to break into song, I do hate tangents (not tangerines, they are ok) I mean tangents, as in going off on one, I don't mean I'm going off on one as in having a moan or getting stroppy, I mean going off on a tangent. I better move on..........

So, a dear, a female dear, oh no, that's wrong, its DOE isn't it, not John Doe, that's a name used for a person without a name in America apparently, I would probably call him Bob if it were me, but I'm not American, or called John, or Bob come to think of it.......

So, 21 today eh, oooooh, get you, all grown up now, congratulations (cue balloons, streamers and party food) so, how does it feel? Any different? No, I didnt think it would, after all its just another............... POST

Ah ha, you thought I was going to say day or year or some such thing didn't you, DIDN'T YOU! (sorry, getting all aggressive and shouty then for no reason at all, I do apologise)....(especially on your big day)

So, (3 so's in a row)..(a row of so's)..(a triple so row) actually thats not true, its not 3 in a row, there is an ah coming between them, its actually a so, so ah, so, almost got a Japanese feel to it, moving on........

So (another one) its your big day, your 21st, congratulations blog on reaching your 21st post, I hope you have a really enjoyable day, I would love to join you but I have a headache and Im tired, sorry :-)

Wednesday 14 October 2009

Have you been down that road?

The reason I ask is that I had a very strange experience today regarding someone I was supposed to meet.

Without mentioning names or places (to protect the innocent) I shall endeavour to explain.

I had planned to meet someone (in order to carry out a joint appointment) this afternoon as we were both coming from different directions so, therefore driving separately.

The place we were meeting is actually the home town of where the person I was due to meet lives (bear with me on this one) straightforward you would think, well I certainly did.

Admittedly they were coming from about 15 miles away (I know, not far, hardly a journey across the Serengeti) plus the place they were coming from, although unfamiliar to them was actually between their workplace and home address, again, straightforward you would think, I certainly did (ooooh déjà vu there).

Anyway, about 5 minutes before we were due to meet I got a call from said person explaining that as their “navigation equipment”? wasn’t working properly they would not be able to make it as they weren’t sure where to go. In itself not a problem and the appointment actually went better with me alone than if there had been two of us, BUT it did raise a few issues (ok, a bit strong, maybe not issues but intriguing thoughts)

Firstly, how on earth can someone not know how to get to the town they live in and also how can they be so unaware of the time it takes to get there (given they go there everyday through the town they were currently in)

But secondly (and the major thing for me) WHAT IS NAVIGATION EQUIPMENT (its ok, I do know what they meant, sat nav) … (that wonderful device that can be so useful and necessary at times) but why call it navigation equipment.

It conjured up images of the person in question floating along the motorway in their 42 foot catamaran complete with radar, map, sexton and compass.

All very odd, oh and by the way the post title relates to a classic Fast Show sketch

Is it a crime to be skanky?

Well not technically no, not in the UK anyway, although in saying that I'm sure if you work in certain industries it could go against your professional/ethical code, then of course there is the health and hygiene aspects, but a crime?

The reason I pose the question is because I was talking to colleagues today and we decided (pretty much lol) that is surely down to personal choice.

If a person (man or woman) decides that they don't want to wash (themselves or their hair) for example what right do we have to criticise them.

Granted if you work or live alongside that person, its a different matter, but if someone is quietly going about their business, keeping themselves to themselves are they harming anyone?

I of course have my own opinions which I may well post at a later date, or may not of course lol and for the record I shower twice a day :-)

Sunday 11 October 2009

Would you like to be like Bill?

I had initially planned to cover one of my “things to cover at a later date topics” tonight but unfortunately I am unable to.

Sorry, that's not strictly true, in fact its a bare faced lie (what does that actually mean)....(hang on I'll go look)... Well, according to this it has something to do with a bloke called Bill that had a beard, no dear reader/s I'm none the wiser either, not at all, perhaps I should just let it go now....... deep breath..... and relax... thats better :-)

Right then where was I … that's it, I was planning to re visit an old topic but then couldn't, although in fact I am, its just not one of the ones in my "stuff from earlier posts to be revisited at some point" section, which I WILL aim to work my way through at some point.

After becoming all confident earlier in the day following my success with incorporating a “Twitter” widget into my blog (and getting my head round the whole twitter thing itself) I thought I would “alter” (I use the word loosely) a few of the other widgets in my blog.

Therein lies the problem, just like in my earlier postI should have left things alone instead of tinkering with them, I just don't seem to learn, still, I managed to sort it out (which for a confirmed technopobe like myself is quite a feat)...(I guess it also suggests that yes, perhaps I do learn) and I'm also quite pleased with how it (my blog) now looks (I'm easily pleased lol).

For a post that was initially going to revisit an old subject but then couldn't but ultimately did (in a roundabout way) it strikes me as having nothing particularly new about it so perhaps I should concentrate on Bill's beard.
Should any of you choose to be like Bill (and have a beard) I'm sure there are plenty of stockists that will supply one, of course if you are male you could always grow one (unless you are from certain ethnic groups, e.g. Chinese that have difficulty growing facial hair or you suffer with low testosterone)

If you don't wish to be like Bill then that's fine too, personal choice is a wonderful thing...........

Saturday 10 October 2009

F.E.A.R.

Funnily enough (or not) but the title of the post could have covered two totally differing subjects, well probably a multitude of differing subjects, but I'm referring to two (ooooh a tutu) in particular.

Although the post is predominantly about one but I will mention the other, well I have to now don't I after that introduction, after all I don't want to be accused of being one of those people that starts something, well, doesn't even start something, but goes to say something and then says “it doesnt matter”, I'm sure you have met them dear reader/s

Right, back to the post..... no no, please don't send me back to the post I promise I will be good....

not that post silly, I mean the blog post..........

The initial (and bulk) of the post is based around the post title, or more accurately the song with the same name by IAN BROWN

I have already mentioned in an earlier post (LINK) about my trials and tribulations with the iPod although ultimately it was a successful venture and earlier on today (while aimlessly surfing tinterweb) I stumbled upon a site where you can upload your entire iTunes library and share it with the world, so I did (there is a link to it over there on the left somewhere).

Also earlier on today, the song in question came on XFM while I was driving (I love driving, that can go in the other things to cover section I think for a future post) …. actually... looking at the above paragraph and this present one, neither of them are getting to the point of this post, well they are (bit of background information etc) but I did say that the song will be the bulk of the post and it isn't, I better move on, while I'm at it I will join the above paragraphs together seamlessly :-)

So, there I was, attaching the new “thing” (that links to my music library) to my blog and the song I heard earlier on the radio (while driving) starts going round in my head again (not in a delusional thought content way).........(just in the way a song often does) and I thought, ooooh I will listen to that, so I went to the newly uploaded library and its not bloomin there, in fact there are probably hundreds of songs missing as there are more songs on the iTunes on my laptop than there are on the library that was uploaded, most mysterious......

Anyway, back to the point of the post, the song, it really is such a marvellous song for many reasons (in my opinion obviously lol) the video is very clever (I think personally) very simple and no doubt reasonably inexpensive to make, but at the time very clever and original, take a peak if you want VIDEO ..... as are the lyrics, very simple, yet very clever, in that each of the 4 words in each line starts with the letters F E A and R, you can see for yourself if you dont believe me lol .... LYRICS .... like the video, simple yet effective (at least thats my view lol)..........

Before I close this post I suppose I better mention the other thing I said it could be about, its linked to the picture at the top, the game (or series of as there are 2 already and will no doubt be more) FEAR, a very good and most enjoyable (if not a tad scary at times) game with FEAR standing for First Encounter Assault Recon, not lyrics Ian Brown would of used I wouldn't imagine lol.

Some section of this post will be revisited at some time (maybe 10 past 10) but probably not, but at some time in the future (possibly) who knows...........

Thursday 8 October 2009

How many animals?

I was talking to someone the other day, its ok, I knew them, I wasn't just spouting drivel and nonsense to a stranger (thats what this blog is for lol) and we started talking about animals, anyway, to cut a long story short (not like me I know) the subject of owning 2 dogs came up (him not me)...(as in he has two dogs I dont) and it got me thinking, well remoombering actually.

Back in 1995 (when I was a mere slip of a lad).....(well, 27 lol) a “new” alcoholic beverage appeared on the shelves of my local purveyor of said alcoholic beverages (the off licence) it was a lemon flavoured drink (I love anything lemony) ….. (there's a definite future post there, it can go in my new fangled things to cover box on the left) and it was a joy to drink as I remember.

I had forgotten all about Two Dogs (and its rival at the time Hooch) the latter being more popular as I recall and outlasting the former (although I always preferred Two Dogs to Hooch)

Fast forward nearly 15 years and “alcopops” as they are lovingly referred to are a multi billion pound industry in their own right with over 150 varieties (A-Z list Link) for those that cant sleep and need something to read lol)

I'm not going to go into the whole alcohol thing now (I may do at some point but its a huge area and deserves not only its own post but a week of posts if not longer, or even its own blog) but I will say that since the birth of the alcopop, societies woes and problems with yoof “excess” drinking and its associated behaviours appears to show a correlation, I'm not basing that on anything scientific, just my own observations, or perhaps I'm just being a moany old git lol.

Right, time for a nice warm milky drink before bed :-)

Some section of this post will be revisited at some time (maybe 10 past 10) but probably not, but at some time in the future (possibly) who knows...........

Not wishing to speak too soon........

Following my earlier perils (over the past week or so) of not being able to access my blog (or other google related services) or at least only being able to access them intermittently, I think (I hope lol) I have overcome the problem, it was simple, I just pressed the success button on the keyboard and voilà, all solved :-)

Ok, that's not strictly true, it was a tad more difficult that that (if only such a key existed in the world of qwerty)

It would appear that my difficulties were arising due to my service provider as far as I can tell, it appeared it is over vigilant with certain sites for some reason.

By using a Proxy Site, which is a site that uses a different ISP to your own apparently (I'm in way over my head here and haven't a clue what I'm on about)....(I'm a confirmed technophobe remember lol) I am able to access everything fine and regularly, as opposed to with difficulty and rarely, so all in all, a happy bunny :-)

Inappropriate Titles

Inappropriate Titles

Like that one up there, its inappropriate as it repeats the title of the post, actually that's not true, its unnecessary more than its inappropriate.

What I want to talk about is inappropriate titles as opposed to unnecessary ones, so I will.........

So, no I don't actually, never been good with a needle, but thanks for your concern.
So, this inappropriate titles nonsense, when I say inappropriate titles, I'm not referring to blog titles, or even the titles of the post contained within them there blogs, I'm sure there are many many examples of that scattered around the web (and probably this blog) but I'm not going to cover that now, that can go on the list of "other" stuff that I stumble across when posting and want to re visit at some point, thinking about it I may even get all technical (as if lol) and try to incorporate said list into my blog so that I can work through it and not forget things, hmmmm, something else to think about now.

Anyway this inappropriate titles business, what I'm actually talking about is the titles that are given to certain situations, for example (and the only one I will mention)....(for now)....(until my fancy "points to re visit" gizmo is functioning lol) is the title given to heavy rain, you know the sort of weather when it could be said that it is thoroughly persisting down, that sort of rain.

Its often (lovingly?) referred to as driving rain, I can understand the reasons why and I have no issue with that in itself, what I do find a bit odd is the connection to driving, the term "driving rain" almost suggests its the sort of rain that is "ideal for driving in"..........

WRONG

Very wrong, its NOT ideal for driving in, its bloomin awful for driving in, especially today.

I had planned (optimistically it transpires) to have an early (ish) finish today, I was hoping to be home by 16.30 and able to chill out and kill some German soldiers that have had a touch of the occult sprinkled on them (this might explain it better Wolfenstein) all in the name of harmless fun I hasten to add.

But no, it didn't happen, in the end (after being on my way home at 16.15) I got a call and had to go and "deal" with something that really had to be dealt with, I'm glad I did and it left a good feeling but it meant that I was ultimately driving home over 2 hours later (middle of rush hour) in the driving? rain, as I said earlier, it is certainly not rain for driving in.

ADDENDUM (been dying to use that word lol)

The problems I had accessing anything google related (including my blog) are still present but for some reason it let me access it tonight so I took full advantage and posted more drivel, the next lot will hopefully not be too many days away (or hopefully depending on your personal take on reading another's inane ramblings lol)

Some section of this post will be revisited at some time (maybe 10 past 10) but probably not, but at some time in the future (possibly) who knows...........

"99" Its got a flake in it innit

Before I start I should add that “normal service” has not yet resumed but I couldn’t resist the urge to post a quick one (so have sneaked onto a different computer in order to access blogger etc, see last post.. LINK..) … (alas I’m not sure when my next one will be)….. GRRRRR

Anyway, no but I have some curd (sorry, couldn’t resist)… this here post (I shall forget my last post and its associated anxieties for now)

I was thinking today (it really hurt) and I recalled how much I love ice cream, with that in mind I thought I would do a short but sweet (as in sugary) post about ice cream, in particular the good old flake bejewelled 99.

Before starting my post (like many I do) I thought I would look for an appropriate (mildly amusing/linked pic) and I found that one ^^^^^^ up there. This caused a problem, instead of talking about my intended subject I know feel impelled to ask….

What is that all about?

Why?

After finding the image I did some more digging (no not night gardening) and discovered its not a promotional gimmick for flake (or 99 ice creams) as I first thought and would have found more comfortable in an accepting type way but its something that was worn at Ascot. The well known equestrian event (I say equestrian event, its actually a gathering of small men in bright colours whipping horses for pleasure) where on ladies day everyone tries to outdo each other with their dress/hats, well, I’m guessing the lady in the picture won…………………

I would dearly love to expand more on this post, it opens itself to all sorts of further questions and comments, noticeably horse racing, fashion and bloomin stupid hats, but I cant (you can) no Orville I cant, I must go…………

NORMAL SERVICE WILL BE RESUMED……. AT SOME POINT……

This is only a mini post (no it’s not about vehicles or skirts) I mean it’s only a brief post, as in short, not lengthy etc etc…..

For some reason (as yet unbeknown to me)…(but then as already mentioned I AM a technophobe lol) I am having difficulty accessing my blog, well, not just my blog, blogger in general, well not just blogger in general but anything Google related, except for the search engine itself which works fine….. all very odd……

So, in a nut shell, you may find a nut, I mean, in a nut shell, this may be the last post for a while, or, it may be the last for a day or so, all depends if I can get to the bottom of my inaccessibility problems………..

WATCH THIS SPACE………… (not literally, its ok, you can look away now, just make sure you check back for updates to my mysterious blogger difficulties)
